Acounten specializes in providing these services to small government contractors and professional service firms. Originally founded in Raleigh, North Carolina, Acounten is currently headquartered in San Francisco and serves clients nationwide.

The name Acounten comes from the etymology of the word accounting. It is a form of the Middle English verb accounten, which means “to account”.

About James Skinner, ABA®, CRTP

James Skinner is sole member/manager of Acounten LLC and principal consultant. As an Accredited Business Accountant (ABA®) and a California Registered Tax Preparer (CRTP), James is committed to helping small business owners keep clean and compliant books, and avoid unnecessary tax bills. James’ career began in the financial services industry where he worked for more than a decade in community banks and credit unions. After falling in love with accounting and leaving his banking career behind, James worked as controller for small government contractors before deciding being a solo accounting consultant was his true calling. James holds a B.S. in economics and a graduate certificate in accounting. James is also a member of the National Society of Accountants and National Association of Tax Professionals.
